Independence Conservancy’s Preserved Lands


Currently, our preserved lands include:


  • Red Oak Farmhouse
    JB2 Abandoned Mine Discharge Treatment System
    Burgettstown, Washington County

    Removes 25 tons of iron and aluminum yearly from the headwaters of Raccoon Creek.

  • Solar Mine Abandoned Mine Discharge Treatment System
    Bald Knob, Allegheny County

    Removes 11 tons of iron from St. Patrick’s Run. Solar Mine’s series of wetlands are a haven for wildlife.

  • Red Oak Farm
    Raccoon Township, Beaver County

    A working farm containing 38 acres of mature hardwoods and open fields in the headwaters of Fishpot Run, a secluded tributary to Raccoon Creek.


  • Little Blue Wetland
    Greene Township, Beaver County

    8 acres in the headwaters of the Little Blue watershed containing a 3 acre mitigation wetland with palustrine emergent, shallow marsh, intermediate marsh and deep marsh habitats.
  • New - Rocky Bottom Natural Area
    Potter Township, Beaver County

    26 acres in two parcels with almost a mile of frontage on scenic lower Raccoon Creek. Open to the public for low-impact, non-motorized recreation, including hunting and fishing in lawful seasons, swimming, paddling, hiking and quiet enjoyment. Pack it in; pack it out. ATVs, dirt bikes and any type of automobile is prohibited on the land or in the water. Motorized trespass will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Report violators by calling 911 immediately.
