Safe Canoeing Guidelines

You can observe a great variety of wildlife as well as many beautiful plants and wildflowers while canoeing Raccoon Creek. Please observe the following safe canoeing guidelines:

• Raccoon Creek is normally canoeable from March through June. The gauge at Moffet Mill should read 2.2 feet or above. At this level the creek has a Class One rating.
  
  
• Stream flow information is available at http://water.usgs.gov/
  waterwatch/ On the US map, click anywhere on the state of PA to display a Pennsylvania map, then hold your cursor over the dot in south central Beaver County. Real time data for the Moffet Mill Gauge will display.
  
  
• Every paddler who uses the Canoe Trail launch sites assumes personal liability. Your safety depends on your skill level, common sense and good judgment. Sharp bends and fallen trees are very dangerous at flood levels.
  
  
• You should not canoe Raccoon Creek if the current is too strong for you to stop and back away from a fallen tree or obstruction.
  
  
• Raccoon Creek flows through privately owned land. Respect the rights of property owners by obeying posted signs. Do not litter.
